Description:
Job Title: Systems Engineer -VMWare, Storage Be a technical lead to evaluate, design, and implement new technology and tools to optimize the server and computing infrastructure. This includes having high-level design experience to plan for the overall logical and technical IT architecture. This individual will provide technical leadership, hands-on implementation, and on-going day to day support and consulting across the organization. This role will also be responsible for developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas; particularly SAN storage technology, virtualization design and support and blade server technologies Job Objectives:
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas; VMware Vsphere 4, SAN Storage environments NetApp, HP-EVA, HP Blade servers
  • Design and implement Microsoft, VMware Virtual, and NetApp SAN/NAS Infrastructure solutions as well as provide short and long-term plans to ensure infrastructure meets existing and future requirements
  • Plan, manage, and implement Information Technology (IT) capital investment projects
  • Develop and implement infrastructure capacity planning and optimization to fully utilize available resources
  • Administration & support of enterprise wide NetApp 3040/6200 and HP-EVA 5000/8000 SAN environment.
  • Experience supporting Brocade Fiber Channel switches, HBAs and zoning, and an understanding of SAN design in a heterogeneous environment.
  • Support VMWare infrastrcture virtualization platforms
  • Creation and administration of fabric configurations such as device aliases/fcaliases, zones and zonesets.  Creation and administration of RAID groups, storage groups, aggregates, volumes, LUNs and the provisioning of these to client hosts (Windows, UNIX, ESX)
  • Capacity management and planning
  • FilerView and/or System Manager; experience with configuration (disks/RAID groups/Aggregates/volumes), SnapVault, SnapShot, SnapMirror, LUN provisioning, iSCSI setup/management, NDMP backup, etc.), OSSV, Ongoing BackUp Protection, Block Level Back Up.
  • Must have Hands-on expertise with SAN & NAS architecture, configuration, administration, provisioning & troubleshooting with technologies from: NetApp, HP & EMC
  • Must be comfortable with evening and/or weekend work hours to accommodate common change activities and participate in an on-call rotation schedule.
  • Identify, document, publish and uphold systems policies, standards, procedures, checklists, agreements, diagrams, inventory, etc.
  • Train and mentor team members
Requirements:

Competencies:

  • A Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Computer Science or related field and/or 7+ years of equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of experience implementing infrastructure design and operational excellence
  • VMware Virtual, NetApp SAN and Broacade switch Infrastructure experience is required
  • Experience working with HP Server and Blade class machines and I/O modules
  • Technical Certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, and VMware) are preferred
  • Experience implementing Disaster Recovery (DR) site for core business infrastructure and applications
  • Desired Insurance/Reinsurance Industry experience and knowledge with an understanding of the terminology, business functions and processes.
  • Thinking 'out of the box' to resolve IT issues when needed
  • Technical lead experience implementing Microsoft solutions
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting hardware
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Very strong problem solving and analytical skills and is a systemic thinker.
